Program for Schools & Community Organizations
Feb. 11, 2025 #SaferInternetDayHow to share Safer Internet Day with your students
Students will join young people in more than 100 countries around the world in learning how they can play a part in creating both a better and safer internet, where everyone is empowered to use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.
Step 1: Watch this how-to video from ConnectSafely education director Kerry Gallagher.
Step 2: Choose classroom lessons, activities and resources
Step 3: Apply for a grant
ConnectSafely is offering $1,000 grants to help educators and youth-serving organizations implement Safer internet Day programs in their communities.
Step 4: Create your action plan
1. Utilize the lessons and activities in a way that makes sense within your school’s schedules and structures, such as:
- Class meetings
- Library media classes
- Morning announcements
- Advisory periods
- Character education opportunities
2. Make it fun
3. Set the stage
- “Today, we join people in more than 100 countries to play our part in creating a better internet.”
- “The internet is yours. No one person, government or company owns it, and we all have a responsibility to make it better and safer for everyone.”
Step 5: Share your students’ participation with the community.
- Newsletter announcement
- Social media announcement
- Classroom poster
- Press release for local radio, TV and newspapers
- Parent/guardian letter
Step 6: Tell us how your students are participating in Safer Internet Day!
Include your official social media handles and any images that you’d like us to share. We will shout-out to your school on social media and in our newsletters around Safer Internet Day.
