Corporate Vice President, Xbox Operations
McCarthy directs the Xbox Product Services organization, which includes a set of teams chartered with unifying and optimizing the customer experience across all areas of Microsoft’s Gaming Business. His teams manage Reliability and Operations, Customer Protection (on-line safety, security, privacy, and accessibility), Customer Help and Support, and Data and Insights, across the full range of Gaming products and services, reaching hundreds of millions of customers around the world. As part of his role on the Gaming leadership team, McCarthy also serves as the executive sponsor for Gaming for Everyone, a comprehensive program across the organization to infuse diversity and inclusion principles into all aspects of the Gaming business, and ensure Xbox is a place where everyone can have fun.
McCarthy joined Microsoft in 2009, and served multiple roles in the Microsoft Studios organization, including serving as General Manager for Xbox Live Arcade, Global Publishing, and Kids & Lifestyle Entertainment. His teams have brought innovative products to market over the years, including Kinect Sesame Street, Xbox Fitness, Project Spark, 1 vs 100, and many more large-scale game franchises.
Prior to joining Microsoft, McCarthy worked as VP of Production at Electronic Arts. As part of the EA SPORTS leadership team, he oversaw the award-winning NHL franchise and the launch of several new businesses, including EA SPORTS Active, Grand Slam Tennis, EA Playground, and the company’s handheld gaming portfolio. Over his 12-year career at EA, he worked on a range of multi-million unit sellers including FIFA Soccer, Need for Speed, The Sims, Medal of Honor, and many other well-known titles.
McCarthy grew up in Vancouver, BC, but currently resides in Mercer Island, WA, with his wife and two kids. He is an avid sportsman, coach, and volunteer.
