ConnectSafely is set to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2025 with several events, including an in-person gathering in Sacramento, a national virtual event for parents, and local school and community activities nationwide. As the official US coordinator, ConnectSafely aligns with global celebrations in over 100 countries, focusing on enhancing digital safety and well-being.

This year’s events will converge a diverse array of participants—students, parents, educators, policymakers, and tech leaders—to tackle key internet safety challenges through youth-inclusive dialogue. The Sacramento forum will host discussions on topics including school phone policies, media literacy, AI in education, social media age verification and parental controls, cyber scams, and AI regulation.

California Superintendent of Public Education Tony Thurmond is set to deliver the keynote. Additional speakers include Assembly members Ash Karla and Buffy Wicks, along with executives from Meta, Google, TikTok, and Snap. Panel discussions will also feature students and youth council members, reflecting a wide range of perspectives.

ConnectSafely, along with National PTA, is also sponsoring an hour-long webinar for parents that will go live on February 11th at 8:00 AM ET (5:00 AM PT)

In addition, ConnectSafely is supporting more than 30 local events at schools and community organizations nationwide.

Larry Magid, CEO of ConnectSafely, emphasized the event’s aim to create a safer internet and empower young people, stating, “Our goal for Safer Internet Day is to transform dialogue into action by integrating the voices of youth directly into the conversations that affect them. These events are a critical step toward building a safer, more responsible digital world for everyone.”
